Some Flood Insurance Facts:

• Homeowners and business insurance policies do not cover flood damage.  Flood insurance is a separate policy.
• Floods come from not only tidal surges and rising rivers, but also from clogged storm drains, run off from heavy rains, ice and snow.
• Approximately 25% of flood claims occur in low-risk areas and can happen at any time of the year.
• Flood insurance policies require a 30-day waiting period before the coverage is effective, so don't wait to hear a Flood Advisory before purchasing your policy!
• Flood insurance is not as expensive as you might think.  Prices for a Preferred Risk Policy (for eligible buildings located in a low to moderate risk zone) with Combined Building and Contents coverage range from $129 to $405 per year (as of Nov. 2011).
